Welcome to Bengaluru Systems Meetup!
Here is a meetup where we bring together Bengaluru’s Systems Enthusiasts in a meetup that covers Databases, Distributed Systems, Compilers, Orchestration Systems, and Dataflow Systems. Let’s talk systems!
Content Quality Restrictions / Caveats
We generally disallow very marketing-heavy / customer-focused talks and events. Our focus is on ensuring that we dive into sufficient depth in each session and that everyone walks away having learnt something new. As such, we maintain a strong preference for research-heavy / internals-heavy talks, something a curious engineer/researcher would enjoy. This is reflected across both our offline and online sessions.
Offline and Online Meetup Sessions
Typically, Bengaluru Systems holds an offline meetup during the final weekend of the month. This takes place on Saturday mornings - usually the last Saturday of every month, with potential evening sessions on the cards. We maintain a rolling CFP at https://hasgeek.com/bengalurusystemsmeetup/cfp/ and are always open to talks being submitted. Once submitted, we work with the authors to figure out when and where we can host them.
We generally do a brief review of the content a few days before we go live, and we may occasionally suggest very minor changes (e.g., presentation duration, additional context, links to references, etc.).
We’ve also had online sessions, with speakers like Alex Padula from TidesDB, Aditya Maru from Blacksmith and Alex Garcia, the creator of sqlite-vec. We’ve also had PhD students like Xiangpeng Hao (University of Wisconsin - Madison) and Jianyang Gao (NTU, now ETH Zurich - author of RaBiT-Q). Such sessions are typically much more flexible with respect to timings, and require minimal logistics as they are usually hosted on Discord. These can happen multiple times a month, independent of the offline meetups.
Co-Hosted Offline Events
Bengaluru Systems has also partnered with organisations on several occasions. We’ve had the pleasure to co-host presentations and panel discussions with Joran Dirk Greef from Tigerbeetle and Will Wilson from Antithesis.
We usually do a small review of the content a few days before the presentation here as well - if it’s a panel discussion, we go through some prospective questions, and if it’s a talk, we just go through the slides, occasionally suggesting very minor edits.
The logistics for such events are typically managed by the partnering organisation, in terms of venue, AV, food, recording and/or equipment. Bengaluru Systems makes no money from this, and we would prefer not to be involved in the financial process entirely.
We would be eager to connect you with vendors for recording or livestreaming our sessions. While choosing venues, we strongly prefer office spaces or convention centres.
Bengaluru Systems will promote the event on all our social media handles and ensure that our community is well-aware that this kind of event is taking place.
